Anna L. Mills holds a Master’s Degree in both Clinical Counseling and Expressive Art Therapy. She is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and Licensed Clinical Professional Art Therapist. She is also a Board Approved Clinical Supervisor for graduate art therapists. She has been providing counseling and art therapy since 2012. She has additional specialized training in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) and Internal Family Systems (IFS).

Anna previously worked as an expressive art therapist in two major psychiatric hospitals: Sheppard Pratt Hospital’s trauma disorders unit and Center for Eating Disorders and Suburban Hospital/Johns Hopkins Medicine’s behavioral health program. From 2016-2020 Anna facilitated the art therapy program at My Sister’s Place Women’s Center, a community center run by Catholic Charities in Baltimore City, where she also provided on-site supervision for graduate art therapy students from Notre-Dame of Maryland Art Therapy program. In 2021she facilitated the first virtual art therapy group for Johns Hopkins’ Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorder Center. Anna also provided consultation to support the continued study of the efficacy of art therapy for those diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. Anna provides therapy at Ingleside at Kings Row Memory Care in Rockville, MD for residents with dementia in the Memory Care facility. She started private practice in January 2020.

As a therapist, Anna’s extensive experience and therapeutic style create a safe and supportive environment for her clients to feel seen and heard. Therapy with Anna is affirming, strengths based and culturally sensitive She uses a person-centered approach and a compassionate presence, with empathic and attuned listening skills to support client’s goals and healing. She is an EMDR trained therapist (Level 1) and continues with EMDR advanced training (Level 2). She applies clinically effective, up-to date and evidence-based approaches into the therapy, including CBT, DBT, ACT, MBSR, EMDR and IFS along with psychoeducation to allow understanding and learning.
